My Story | Kylee Smith

I have been practicing meditation across traditional Yogic and Buddhist Traditions for over 30 years. I have studied with teachers such as Sri Swami Satyananda and Swami Niranjanananda at the Bihar School of Yoga in India and Australia, as well as Tibetan Buddhist Vajrayana Meditation under teachers such as  Sogyal Rinpoche, Mingyur Ripoche and The Dalai Lama.  I hold a 330-Hour Advanced Diploma in Meditation as Lifestyle Medicine Teaching Qualification through the Biomedical Institute of Yoga & Meditation (BIYOME) and I am currently continuing my studies through BIYOME, pursuing a 660-Hour Masters in Biomedical Meditation Therapy & Allied Health.

BIYOME, The BioMedical Institute of Yoga & Meditation offers the ultimate connection between the Ancient Science of Yoga and the Western Biomedical Model. Their programmes merge science and spirituality through experiential practice and they provide an understanding of mind-body medicine and biopsychosocial health through interbeing or present moment awareness [1]. The practice of meditation through BIYOME is evidence based and well supported through the latest available research.

More recently, for the past six years, I have been studying meditation with a wonderful American Classical Tantra teacher by the name of Hareesh (Christopher) Wallis, through Tantra Illuminated. Classical Tantra is a Non-Dual Shaiva practice, where the intent is to fully embody divinity, rather than transcend the body. In the words of Hareesh (2015), Tantra is “World Embracing, rather than world denying… integrated with everyday life, rather than renouncing it”[2]. These teachings and practices are transforming my life day-by-day, hour-by-hour. It can be challenging at times in many ways, but the work is so worth it. The moments of joy and bliss that I have experienced over the years and especially since studying with Hareesh have been truly spectacular. This, combined with the depth of understanding that I have received on the ways to embrace and traverse the so-called negative emotions, have led me to  a life that is at once authentic and fulliled.

I now apply this combination of teachings from the scientific evidence base to the sacred wisdom traditions to provide a holistic and integrated path to wellness and peace. In addition, through my own lived experience, I can comfortably hold space in meditation for a range of complex health issues such as Chronic Pain, Depression and Anxiety and ADHD or AuDHD.
